A Wake-Up Call for Curaçao: The Challenge of Implementing the Curaçao2030 Vision
As we approach the deadline for abstract submission for the Dutch Caribbean Research Week 2024, I find myself reflecting on the topic of my upcoming presentation: the implementation of the Curaçao 2030 Vision. This vision, a roadmap to a prosperous and sustainable future for our island, is something that should inspire hope and action. Yet, I must admit that my findings paint a less encouraging picture.
The Vision That Lacks Visibility
The Curaçao 2030 Vision was designed to be a comprehensive plan that outlines the economic, social, and environmental goals for our island's future. It is meant to guide our progress toward sustainability, inclusivity, and innovation. However, there seems to be a significant gap between the vision outlined on paper and the reality on the ground.
One of the major challenges I've encountered while researching this topic is the apparent lack of support and engagement. Despite the importance of the vision, there seems to be a general sense of indifference or unawareness among us. This is not just a minor setback; it is a fundamental issue that needs addressing if we are to make any meaningful progress.
The Role of Our Group
When discussing the Curaçao 2030 Vision with members of the group, I've noticed a worrying trend: many are not actively participating in or even aware of the initiatives under this vision. Our community seems disengaged, and there's a clear lack of enthusiasm for what should be a collective effort to shape our future.
This lack of engagement might stem from several factors, including insufficient communication about the vision, a disconnect between the vision and the daily lives of residents, or perhaps a deeper skepticism about the feasibility of the goals set out. Whatever the reasons, it is clear that without active participation and a sense of ownership, the Curaçao 2030 Vision risks becoming nothing more than a well-intentioned document gathering dust.
A Call to Action
The situation is not without hope. The upcoming Dutch Caribbean Research Week 2024 provides a perfect platform for us to address these challenges head-on. It is an opportunity for researchers, policymakers, and the public to come together and discuss how we can better implement the Curaçao 2030 Vision. But for this to happen, we need more than just presentations and discussions; we need action.
As I prepare to present my findings, my aim is to not only highlight the issues but also to spark a conversation about how we can turn this vision into a reality. It is a call to all residents of Curaçao to get involved, to voice their concerns, to share their ideas, and to actively participate in shaping the future of our island.
Moving Forward
The success of the Curaçao 2030 Vision hinges on our collective effort. It requires transparent communication, and a willingness to adapt and innovate. We cannot afford to be passive bystanders; we must become active participants in our own future.
If you have any thoughts or would like to contribute to the conversation, please don’t hesitate to reach out commenting on this blog ore juist like the blog. Together, we can ensure that the Curaçao 2030 Vision becomes a living, breathing reality, not just a distant dream.
Best regards,
Miguel Goede
